This inflammation causes bone resorption and it shows in the mouth as deep pockets between the teeth and the gums. The aim of the treatment is to detect all the areas of inflammation and remove the cause, which is the colonies of the bacteria inside the pockets.

He makes a detailed chart of these areas in the mouth and schedules appointments to deal with each and every area under local anaesthesia. This is the non-surgical periodontal treatment.
